We made our way to Neist Point which involves driving through some uphill single track roads.
It was fortunate we were heading there later in the day, as we both felt these roads must be a nightmare at peak times of the day, and especially in holiday season.
As we reached the car park, we could see the impressive views of the hills opposite. Once out of the car, within a short walking distance we could see the path, rocks, and cliffs leading towards the lighthouse.
We headed across the cliff tops to where most folks want to take in the main viewpoint.
From here, we walked down the steps and along the pathway heading towards the lighthouse, where I grabbed an approach shot.
As Kathryn walked round the lighthouse, I skipped down to the cliffs and got as close to the edge as I could before setting up my tripod and taking some shots of the lighthouse from here.
I really liked this scene, and took my time to carefully find composition and focus to achieve maximum quality. I zoomed in for manual focus tweaking and tried to slow the shutter down a little and use filters to show some cloud movement.
Kathryn took a picture of me in the spot where I took the shot above, precariously on the edge of the rocks with the sea only a few paces away.
We walked back up to the top where we had started and after a prompt from Kathryn, I took the shot below as the evening light lit up the mountain-side.
Back at the top, I ventured back to the main viewpoint again to grab a sunset golden hour shot of the scene. It’s been done a thousand times but I can imagine it’s a scene you’d never get bored of photographing.
I grabbed the shot below where I am unsure if I’ve got front to back sharpness at a level I like, but no matter it was well lit.
I observed significantly more people taking photos or preparing to do so. I guess the sunset and golden hour light was the draw.
I also saw a photography group rock up behind me and start setting up for their shoot.
As we left this location, we appeared to be leaving before many of the other cars, and met little traffic the other way as it was getting late.
We were really pleased with ourselves that we had visited two different locations in one day, either of which could easily consume a day in their own right.
As knackered as we were, we had a real feeling of squeezing every drop of time out of our holiday.
It was good to visit Neist Point, not only was it amazing, but we’d missed out on this location on our last visit.
If you go to Skye, add this to your must visit places. The amazing views are worth seeing, and it’s a really good walk down to the lighthouse.
Onwards and upwards…
