We met at Cart Gap near Happisburgh at 06:45 for sunrise.
The forecast was for cloud and minimal sun but we wanted to get out and shoot so we took our chances.
Making our way onto the beach, there were plenty of groynes to aim for, but I was looking for something a little different.
My first shot was of this horizontal beam with the background full of what remains of some old wooden sea defence – I’m not sure about this capture.
I then started to chase a bit of swooshery.
I decided to get creative, which doesn’t come easily for me.
I went into a pool of water as I spotted this funnel of water from the pool to the sea.
I took a few shots but it was too bland so decided to swing one of my wellie boots and create a small wave that would force motion in the water for foreground interest.
I’m quite pleased with the scene especially capturing motion in the wave behind.
With a better sky, this could’ve been a banger! 🤔
Next up I fired off some standard groyne shots.
and another…
I was running out of ideas now so switched to my macro lens to force some additional creativity.
I spotted this stone wedged against a wooden post with some rusty metal.
I grabbed quite a few close up shots of metal sea defence fragments and seaweed and overall was pleased with the collection.
My other two favourites were…
A close-up of some seaweed where applying a Nik colour Efex filter has made the sand look slightly purple.
And this rusty metallic sea defence which looks like a grumpy face, which could be a self-portrait in rusty metal. 😀
I launched the drone to see what I could get but it wasn’t much.
I did get this shot of my two fellow photographers.
And that was a wrap.
As always, we wandered back to the car park and reached for our flasks to enjoy a coffee and a debrief about the morning’s shoot.
I surrendered myself to the Golden Arches on the way home with little shame.
It had been a fun morning with some interesting images in the bag.
Onwards and upwards…
