With frost and mist forecasted, Thurne was the target location with a meet up at 07:00.
It was a little over a year ago since my last visit – see here.
We wandered up alongside the river and opposite to the famous Thurne Mill.
We had plenty of time before sunrise so decided to wander along the path and scout around.
For the first shot, I shot this gate with the path taking your eye to the mill.
I posted the above shot on Instagram but later have reflected that the following shot is stronger.
I had a wander around the mooring areas and spotted this boat and reflection which I thought was worth a shot.
I captured quite a few other shots but none of them have made it through to shortlisting.
I decided to put the drone up to see what I could capture.
I took a shot of St. Benets drainage mill which is probably the best one of my drone shots from this shoot.
I flew over to the mill and grabbed another shot – I like this shot with the boats but the side on view of the mill doesn’t really work.
The next shot is a better view of the mill, but the rest of the composition doesn’t work.
I took one final shot where the mill is clearer but I don’t think the composition works.
I landed the drone, packed up and checked in on the other photographers.
We wandered back down the path towards the mill and I grabbed this shot.
There was a lovely reflection of the mill in the water begging to be captured.
And that was a wrap.
We wandered back to the cars for the usual ritual of flask coffee and a debrief.
The morning hadn’t been as cold as the forecast suggested, and nowhere near as frosty as we had hoped. Nevertheless, a couple of decent images were in the bag.
And one clown drove home to meet another en-route. Yes, Mr M snatched my money and served me up a treat for breakfast.
Onwards and upwards…
