Here I set out my photography goals for the year ahead.
Before that, let’s just quickly check-in on last year’s aspirations.
2024 Objectives – achieved or not achieved?
1/ Improve my compositional skills – partially achieved
I believe I have improved in this area by doing 121s or workshops with pro photographers Chris Sale, Justin Minns and Gill Moon.
I’m thinking more carefully when composing shots, shooting more in portrait mode, and taking more time to consider what I’m after. I want to be more creative and look for different images.
Regarding always achieving a good composition, I still have much room for improvement.
2/ Improve my wildlife photography – partially achieved
With a kingfisher shot and my bearded reedling shot, it’s been good this year.
3/ Workshops with pro photographers – achieved
Referenced above, I’ve done five 121s or workshops with three different pros.
4/ Street photography – achieved
With trips to Naples and London, I grabbed some good street shots with one winning me a club competition.
5/ Expand my website/gallery and online shop – not achieved
While I’ve done a few updates to my website gallery but have done nothing regarding an online shop.
I’ll be dropping this objective for the foreseeable future as it’s not a priority for me.
6/ Consistently achieve higher score in club competitions – achieved
I’ve surpassed my target in this area and have been moved up to the higher league within the club.
7/ Another magazine article – not achieved
It was perhaps over expectant that I would get chosen again by Amateur Photographer magazine and simply by tagging them.
I have insufficient time right now to write an article so will drop this objective for the foreseeable future.
Objectives for 2025
- Continue to improve my compositional skills – I will combine this with more workshops either pro photographers, club presentations or tutorial videos
- Grab more quality wildlife images – I’ll put this here as I have some plans for trips which I hope will nab me some good images but these are only ideas at present
- More workshops with pro photographers – I have two booked so this is a given
- Improve my editing skills – I am aware that I over cook my images so want to be more thoughtful and careful with my editing. I’d also like to take a few more small steps towards learning more about Photoshop
I think that’s an achievable list and we shall see where these take my photography.
Onwards and upwards…
