With the treat of a day off work, I joined another photographer at Hopton-on-Sea for sunrise.
It would be a low tide so we knew this would bring new challenges, which is what we like. We want to be challenged, force thinking differently or produce something a little different. Well, that’s the theory anyway!
As we wandered along the beach, it was tricky at first to see what we would shoot.
However, we ploughed on along the beach and discovered a channel of water created by a dip in the sand.
The sea water running back to the sea appeared like someone had left a water tap on, and made a good leading line so we set up on this spot to see what we could capture.
Below are three shots showing how I was zooming closer and closer in.

I enjoyed capturing these shots but wasn’t entirely happy with the output.
Something was off. Was it just an naff composition?
After much procrastination, and realising the posts on the right were competing with the sun rising on the left, I decided to crop out the posts on the right of the horizon as this particular shot had the sun on the left hand side, and this made the image much more impactful.

This shot is my favourite of the morning.
The morning sun rose so fast that the light was starting to get too bright – there wouldn’t be much shooting time left.
I got the drone up and couldn’t help myself taking some photos of ‘Beached Whale’.
A club rep had told me they thought this would be a better image from the back, so I had in mind to try it, but I’m not convinced of that opinion and why would I be? My original shot got 10/10.

After landing the drone, I got my macro lens out and shots a few snaps of the seaweed on the rocks.

There were some lovely colours on show from these shots, nothing epic but pleasant nonetheless.
And that was a wrap.
The morning light was so bright and the sunrise had emerged super fast. This is what we witness at this time of year as we bound towards and into Spring.
An enjoyable morning challenging ourselves to what we knew would be a familiar place but with different conditions.
Another victory for social photography! ✌🏻😁
Onwards and upwards…
