Over three days, we explored Cambridge, its Botanic Garden, Grantchester and Anglesey Abbey on the way home.

“When in Rome…” ~ On the way through Cambridge, I took some photos of bicycles.

Bicycles, Bicycles, Bicycles…

Day 1 – Botanic Garden

The Botanic Garden is owned by Cambridge University and a real treat for the eyes. Highly recommended.

We wandered around and admired the flowers and I took quite a range of photos.

Fountain and Bees

The flowers were stunning and I took loads of shots but wanted something different.

Rose and Dahlias

I was shooting handheld and with my trusty 24-120 lens so I tried some ICM shots.

Of course, I had to try a zoom burst, one of my favourite ICM techniques.

Orange Day-lili

Next up were some butterfly shots.

Day 2 – Cambridge to Grantchester

We wandered from our hotel down to the riverside path and admired the canal boats.

Canal Boat

This path took us to a bridge which we crossed towards Cambridge city centre.

Path to the Bridge

We walked on, then across the bridge and up further into the city.

I couldn’t help but grab a shot of the punting boats.

Punting Boats

As we walked through the city, we stopped briefly to look at the tree where it is claimed Sir Isaac Newton watched the apple drop from the tree which led to the theory of gravity.

Shame I cut the left hand side off

We walked on and past King’s College Chapel which was an impressive sight built in 1536.

As we continued walking, we came to a busy thoroughfare with a small bridge a lots of people being punted along in boats.

Messing about on the river

We had a superb pub stop here and a roast dinner which set us up nicely for the walk to Grantchester.

I have no photos from the walk to and from Grantchester as it was mostly a track through fields and the sunlight was very bright.

When we did arrive in Grantchester, we had to visit the church that features in the TV series.

Day 3 – Anglesey Abbey

We checked out of our hotel and had Anglesey Abbey and Wicken Fen on our visit list.

It was hot and the sun very bright and as we made our way round past the silver birch area, I grabbed this shot framing a lady reading her book.

Peace and Tranquility

It’s the law that you have to take a shot of the mill when you visit here.

Mill

I quite liked this scene so had to grab a shot…

Pleasant view

It was quite addictive shooting multiple exposures. Much more challenging, interesting and motivating.

Montage of multiple (x2) exposures

We wandered into a garden courtyard and I’m quite pleased with this shot.

This one worked out well…

And that was a wrap!

We made our way back to the car and decided not to go to Wicken Fen as it was late afternoon and we didn’t want to rush it.

All in all, a very nice trip.

Onwards and upwards…
