Two of us agreed to give Hopton-on-Sea another visit at sunrise.

It was a mid to high tide and as we have learned from previous visits, the tide can surprise you being a little different to what the forecast states.

We walked along the beach for a reccé to start.

We both wanted to shoot the posts with the red basket and with my fellow photographer choosing a sideways on composition, I decided to shoot straight at it.

In post-production, I’ve dialled down the contrast and attempted a pastel tone.

Yes, I’m so yesterday with this pastel stuff but it’s not “on point” twendy BS, it’s because I really like those tones!

Minimalist but not the whole way!

I felt I needed to push myself more and find something different.

A walk back along the beach, past my friend who was very taken with the posts and I stopped just past the next set of rocks and I was intrigued by a triangular rock covered in seaweed.

This shot needed careful thought because I wanted separation between it and the main set of rocks stretching out to sea.

The sun had risen by this point and was looking great and I’m thrilled with what I got.

Sunrise at Hopton-on-Sea

I was aware that I had nailed the best composition that I could here and decided to look on the other side of the rocks.

With the benefit of wellies, I was able to position myself so that I could capture the textures and movement of the sea water as it came in and receded.

On occasion, the water is just a little too much and went into my boots, but it was worth the sacrifice.

Hopton Swooshery

I really like this shot, perhaps even better than the previous one.

I like the multiple layers, the swooshery of the waves, the rocks and the wave in the midground before the eye sees the posts and the sky.

And that was a wrap.

We had a really good morning and for me, I’d got two bangers in the bag.

We walked back to our cars and had a debrief over coffee before heading home.

Onwards and upwards…
