Three of us met at Cromer for a sunrise.

I think I’ve mentioned a few times that I’m trying to do different things with my photography at the moment, meaning that I’m trying to find different compositions or capture images in different ways.

For Cromer, I wanted to grab a shot with the Lego brick concrete slab sea defences on the beach as a feature.

My fellow photographers went further down on the beach to get the reflections – one of them is visible in my first shot below.

First shot at 06:12

I didn’t think this shot worked very well and have a wider cropped version.

I stayed close to this spot and in the forty minutes until my next attempt at it I got the drone up.

The sunrise colours were now arriving and really making the cloudy sky pop so it was time to try another shot back at the spot I took the first image at blue hour.

A much better shot

The light was arriving very fast now so I decided I needed to shift my carcass and find another shot.

I decided to capture the pier but try an ICM shot.

My usual preferred ICM technique zoom burst came into action and I managed to capture some decent images.

A four second ICM zoom burst

This was my best shot from the morning and I’ve used some editing and Nik collection to make the most of the colours and effect.

We met up once the morning light was too bright and agreed it had been a good morning with an unexpectedly good sunrise and sky, which had not been what the forecast had suggested.

It just goes to show that getting out at any opportunity you can is often worthwhile.

Cromer always provides something and like many locations, it’s easy to discount it but you have to go out there and push yourself to do different things.

Until the next time.

Onwards and upwards…
