Two of us visited Southwold again but at the Gun Hill beach huts end this time.

I had to check the weather on getting out of bed as the forecast was for snow. There was none, so the shoot was on.

We started on the beach and were looking around the dunes for some creative shots.

I was struggling to start with so just fired off a shot.

First shot

Inspiration wasn’t free flowing at this moment, so I wandered up to the top of the dunes and tried a shot looking back towards Southwold.

Bit better

I needed to do something different, so I decided to go back down within the dunes and shoot a wider aperture.

f/5.6 provides a more creative view

Wandering around the dunes a bit more, I grabbed the following shot.

Nothing special

We decided to move over to shoot the beach huts.

We had observed earlier on the beach that some areas of sand were covered in frost. You can’t really see it that well on any of the images.

I decided to try and multiple exposure image, and I’m really pleased with the end result.

Gun Hill Beach Huts (Multiple Exposure)

I took a few more shots and on this occasion, one of my last shots (rather than one of my first) was the best of the morning.

Best Shot of the Day

I really like this image – the curvature of the sand leading the eye in, the pastel tones, the detail in the sky, even the wave just peeking through and the ship on the horizon.

We packed up and had a debrief with our coffee at our cars, then headed home.

We had observed a big cloud in the distance and as I headed Northwest, and towards Beccles, the snow showers were falling and traffic was moving at 20mph.

I got back to Norwich with a thick layer of snow. It had taken me almost twice the normal time to travel back, but given the images in my library, it was well worth it.

Onwards and upwards…
