For our last day in Suffolk, and Kathryn’s birthday, we stayed in Aldeburgh.

Sunset

We went for an evening stroll along the beach and were treated to an amazing sunset sky. I went light with the Fuji but managed to get the shot below.

Fuji handheld sunset shot

The boats on this beach are the main focal points but I got this shot of this log on the beach.

Something different

This interesting building made a good shot with the spiral staircase.

Aldeburgh Beach Lookout and Art House

On the way back to our accommodation, I took a shot of this alleyway.

Sunrise

I got up early the next morning to do some sunrise shots. Walking along the road running parallel with the beach, I spotted the two boats which I recognise as being popular subjects for photos in Aldeburgh.

Since this was a more serious intent for sunrise shooting, the Nikon, tripod and filters bag were all to hand. I did also bag the Fuji as well.

Setting up carefully to get the right composition, I wanted to get the pink flora and leading line in the foreground.

There was a very nice sky this particular morning and I’m very pleased with the shot, which is probably my best one of the morning. This shot is already printed and currently image of choice framed and on the wall in our living room.

Shot on the Nikon – looks awesome as a framed print

I moved in closer to one of the boats for this shot below.

Nikon shot

I took another shot of this boat from a different angle – see the colour and black and white conversion below.

To finish the morning off, I wandered up to the famous scallop sculpture and took a shot of it with the Fuji.

Aldeburgh Scallop Sculpture – shot on the Fuji

I was thrilled to get a sunstar through the scallop, and made my back to the hotel.

On the way back, I got these shots of a hut and a stair rail handheld using the Fuji.

After a fantastic breakfast, we had a walk around Aldeburgh, then checked out of our accommodation and headed back up to the scallop as Kathryn wanted to take a look.

At the time, I did not know that one of the shots taken on this day would be my themed entry for the next round of the club’s POTY (Photographer of the Year) competition.

All in all, a fantastic few days in Suffolk and some great images.

Onwards and upwards…
