Another sunrise outing for the NDPS club landscape group saw us meet at Bawdsey in Suffolk. I needed to peel out of bed before 5am for this one but it was worth it!

Parking at the quay, we wandered across the shingle over to the shore and realised fairly soon that the colour in the sky looked promising.

We all found a spot to set up and started taking shots.

As the sun came up, we were treated to the most amazing light. These moments are what the early starts are for, and you have to savour them because often within five, ten, maybe fifteen minutes, the best light/sky has gone.

The shot below is my favourite of the trip and has already been printed and is currently on the wall at home. This image is available to purchase from my online shop as a print, framed, framed with mount, or as a canvas or acrylic.

I really like the warm tones of the sunlight hitting the outbound water and the colours in the sky. It’s a photo which has a relaxing vibe about it.

We all did some more shots and it’s interesting to see who stays static and who moves around a lot. I quite liked the shot below but by this time the best of the light had gone.

1/6sec shutter speed remains my starting point.

This trip was the first outing for my new Kase Armour filter set which I’ve got to bring back the option of using graduated filters where there is a very bright sky and darker foreground. I’ll probably write another blog post for anyone who may be interested.

On our return from the beach, some of us tried some shots of the boats at the quay but by this time the sky had gone grey and the light was flat so not a lot on offer for me at any rate.

Back at the car park, with coffee flasks out and chatting over our morning exploits, a fellow member noticed I had a flat tyre. As I opened my boot to see what the spare provision was, before I knew it, two of the guys had my car jacked up and the wheel being changed right in front of my eyes. Thanks to Pat and David who were great at sorting this out for me. The speed at which they had this done was certainly more than a match for those Kwik-Fit fitters.

I had heard that a lot of cars these days have a spray for repairing a puncture temporarily which will get you back home or to the garage but the tyre is ruined leading to a certain replacement.

My car has what looks like a toy wheel which gets you home but you must remain at 50mph.

The toy wheel that is the modern day spare – it does the job!

I set off on the 80+ mile trip back sticking to the 50mph limit with the customary McDonalds breakfast stop en route. And the good news was that I was able to get my puncture repaired so that was a bonus.

Onwards and upwards…
