This month’s club landscape group was a early morning meet at Cley Windmill on the North Norfolk coast.

A fierce get up at just after 04:00 was needed for a meet up time of 05:30.

I don’t enjoy early mornings but photography motivates me…!

A short walk from the village gets you to the place for a prime shot of the mill.

I am quite pleased with this portrait shot, simple and straightforward.

Unfortunately, the hoped for side lighting from the rising sun never really materialised as heavy clouds masked much of the morning light.

All of us took some shots though from various positions and then the rain came down with a vengeance, with hail for a short while too.

I took this shot higher up as a final shot.

There’s been some editing in this scene to hide a white marquee that consumed quite a lot of the left hand side of the scene.

In the end, this shot hasn’t made into my gallery/shop as I’m unsure of the composition, and the fence lacking full sharpness leads me to rule this one out from my usual promotion. Always good to try different compositions though?

The rain was suitably persistent to carry the risk of soaking our gear and bags so we packed up and headed back to the car.

My ritual of Ronald’s breakfast on the way back was welcome.

Back home and wide awake, I worked on my images and mounted prints for the final round of the club competition.

Feeling more and more tired as the day went on, I had a brief afternoon snooze and a lazy rest of the day.

Onwards and upwards…
