I was meeting another photographer at Wells for a sunrise shoot.

We parked on the car park near the high street, and we decided that two hours would be more than enough.

We wandered down to the harbour and along to the first view point.

It was challenging to find a shot amongst the high volume of boats moored up.

I grabbed the shot below which has been cropped.

First shot of the morning

I took a wider scene but it’s awful!

Terrible!

We walked further along the road and down a slope used to getting boats to the water.

It was wet and quite slippy so care needed to be taken.

I was struggling to find an uncluttered shot so decided to have a go at some ICM shots.

ICM shot

My fellow photographer was taking shots in the opposite direction so I turned around, and carried on doing some ICM shots.

Not bad Rodney, not bad…!

I could see that there were good reflections in the water, and the morning sunlight was providing some lovely early morning colours.

I moved as far down the end of the slope as I could without going into the water as I wanted to capture as much of the reflections as I could. This led to my best capture of the morning.

Best shot of the morning

The shot above has had some distracting elements removed.

I like it because it’s clean, the colour palette is pleasing, and there’s some streaks to show movement in the water.

I have another version of this shot which is still pleasing but in my opinion not as good.

Alternate shot

And that was a wrap.

We headed back to the car park, conscious that we had both bought tickets for two hours.

A debrief with our coffee and we were done.

We departed and I resisted any temptation of the Golden Arches.

One week later, and a parking fine notification drops on the doormat. I had been caught overstaying my two hour slot by some considerable margin.

I have duly coughed up £60 squids.

Despite the annoyance, it’s a fair cop! We lost track of time, and are banged to rights.

So this set of images is an expensive set, and now you know why!

Onwards and upwards…
