Having got back from the Corpach sunrise shoot, I had a quick nap, began uploading my photos, and then we enjoyed breakfast while being able to see Loch Linnhe out of the hotel restaurant window.

After checking out, we left Fort William and headed to St. John’s Church in Ballachulish as Kathryn had read that it usually has bluebells at this time of year.

Unfortunately, when we arrived, there were no bluebells. The church grounds were picturesque, and I took the shot below but struggled to find a composition.

Can you see someone photobombed this shot?

Next stop was at Glen Etive where the Buachaille Etiv Mor and the waterfalls provide stunning views.

We had stopped here back in 2019 and I wanted to get a different composition than just the shot from the main river bank.

2019 edition

Kathryn waited in the car while I walked 2 mins to the spot to find two other photographers pitched up. They had pretty much finished so I took a couple of shots there before I quickly realised I was just repeating what I’d done last time.

Like 2019 but further back and in 2022

I wandered away from the main bank to my right and further back, and was quite pleased with the shot below.

A much more interesting shot

However, on a few more looks, I think I could’ve got something a little less cluttered, and more intimate by climbing down nearer the waterfalls.

This was our last stop for our 2022 Scotland trip and we were sad to be leaving.

We stopped at the Tyndrum cafe (great food BTW) and there was a hurried rush to get my D500 out as Kathryn had spotted a golden eagle. As is often the case though, by the time I’d got set up, it had gone.

We were now heading down to the Yorkshire Dales as a stopover to break up the journey home. We were just outside Ilkley in Yorkshire when Kathryn spotted a large bird in a field.

We managed to stop and I hopped out of the car, and having had the D500 at the ready earlier in the day, I managed to get some good shots of this Red Kite.

We had a overnight stay near Skipton and had some ideas of catching a couple of locations but it was really busy, and by this time we had that ‘just want to get home’ feeling.

All in all though, Wow, what an epic holiday. 2,500 miles driven, 1,500 images and quite a few beers!

Scotland delivered, and this will not be our last visit.

Onwards and upwards…
