I’ve just traded in my Nikon F mount 70-200mm f4 lens for a Z mount 24-200mm f4-6.3 lens. I’d heard quite a bit about the 24-200mm lens from a few YouTubers and, for such a variable aperture, the general opinion was that this was a very capable and versatile lens and suitably sharp where it needs to be. The 70-200 awaits repair as it has two or three wear and tear issues but I’m not surprised as it’s had lots of use, and I bought it second hand on that well known auction site.

The plan is to go out on trips with this 24-200mm lens and my ultra-wide 14-30mm as a flexible but light package. The 24-200m is compact and complements the Z range of cameras perfectly. I was a little concerned about the lack of an AF/MF switch but setting one of the Z shortcut keys to focus mode, I can switch from Auto to Manual very quickly without any problems. I shall try this lens out at a forthcoming sunrise shoot. The 67mm filter thread matches that of the 70-200mm which means I can use the same filter ring attachment. This change of lens also means one less reason to need the FTZ adapter which is now only of use if/when the “Bigma” 150-600mm lens comes out.
