Hunstanton was the target for this sunrise trip with high tide and a meet time of 06:00.
We decided to meet at what is generally referred to as New Hunstanton or just ‘Hunstanton’ which is South, as opposed to Old Hunstanton more North.
The North end is a more popular destination as it has a lighthouse and the famous red cliffs and a shipwreck.
Why the South end?
We wanted to try out the South end as we knew from a YouTube video of Gary Gough’s that there were plenty of coastal marker posts with numbers on them.
These markers are quite distinctive, and there’s lots of potential for minimalist shots.
The shoot
We wandered down to the seafront and glancing back over the wall I sneaked a quick look at the cliffs.
For a split second I thought about a shot but my fellow photographers were bounding ahead and there wasn’t yet much in the way of morning light.
We had a reccé and chose our spots for our first shots of the morning.
I tracked back to take a few shots of these coastal markers and in post-production, have tried to edit such that they are minimalist shots.
There were actually nine of these posts and each shot I’ve captured is either an odd number as shot or cropped to be so.
A shot of three of the coastal markers works well in colour or mono, but I do like the mono version.
I moved back to where I started and spotted some birds occasionally perched on one of the posts including a cormorant. A quick change to a longer lens and away I went.
I was shooting random images now and the tide was starting to recede.
I took a shot South-facing which is very cluttered but I could see smoke on the horizon and had no idea what it was, and still don’t.
I thought the following structure was interesting…
It was time to pack up and I took one last shot of my friend Pat in action.
That was a wrap.
We made our way back along the promenade and back to our cars.
A cup of coffee and a debrief as always then we left.
Desperate for my Ronald fix, I drove to Kings Lynn for it as it appears that West Norfolk has defended much of its territory from the invasion of that clown and his McShite.
We all enjoyed Hunstanton and will most certainly come back again.
Onwards and upwards…
