As is fast becoming a tradition for the end of a calendar year, the NDPS club landscape trip was Southwold.

There were eleven members in attendance but plenty of beach space. Many fellow photographers took up positions to the left of the pier as you look out to sea. Three of four of us went the other side of the pier.

My intention was to shoot a different scene so I wandered further up the beach to shoot back at the pier.

With a very pleasing sky, I decided to try a long exposure to see if I could catch movement in the sky, with my best shot below at 4.5 minutes.

Nikon Z9, 14-30mm@14mm, f/14, 271s, ISO 64, ND filter

I took quite a few shots before reaching the exposure time of the shot above.

I enjoyed staying in the same spot rather than darting around but once I had this shot, I got bored waiting minutes between shots.

For something different, and with the sky behind this scene looking very nice, I about turned and decided to capture some waves.

Swooshery, you can’t beat it!

I quite liked the circular pattern in the sand and shingle on the right as well as my preferred sea wave texture effect courtesy of a shutter speed of 1/5s.

The morning light was emerging quite fast so I decided to join another photographer closer to the pier, and grabbed the following shot.

Half a second exposure for this shot

I have a variation of this shot which I’ve converted to monochrome.

1/8s shutter speed

For my final few shots, I attempted at ICM zoom burst which doesn’t work at all but is of small interest to see what happens.

An ill-fated ICM zoom burst at a subject guaranteed not to work!

And that was a wrap.

We all met back at our cars for hot drinks from our flasks and a debrief.

Wishing each other a happy Christmas, we all made our way home.

As it transpires, my McMuffin dealer Ronald never takes time off so I was lured in at Beccles on the way home.

Onwards and upwards…
