Two of us met for sunrise at Southwold.

Again, the aim was to do and capture something different.

I began shooting a few shots of the pier sign and seating.

Southwold Montage

We wandered around doing a reccé and chatted through some ideas including trying to capture a minimalist image in the style of Helen Trust – a visit to her website is truly inspiring and highly recommended.

My favourite shot is below, which is because I have a cloud to fill the largest space at the top of the image, albeit it’s reducing the complete minimalist effect a little.

Nikon Z9, 14-30@35mm (DX crop mode), f/14, 30s, ISO 32

The shot above is a little more zoomed in and the subject larger than what Helen does but I was pleased to give it a try and wouldn’t rule out having another go in future.

It was time to move and we were heading to the other side of the pier, but first a classic seascape shot was blinking at me!

We walked to the other side of the pier and had a look around.

I could see the waves from the high tide crashing against the concrete sea defence so took a few shots here.

There was another shot nearer to where I was standing and looking down.

Slow water capture

I then joined my fellow photographer in capturing images of the huts.

I was thinking ahead of potential panels in future so took loads of single images of the huts in colour, then walked along the same huts and took loads of infrared shots.

We wandered back to the car, grabbed our coffees and had a debrief.

We then spotted the waves crashes against the sea defences and causing huge splashes visible above the beach huts.

We went to have a peek and I thought the waves looked so good, I grabbed a few shots.

Wave

And that was a wrap.

We had a fantastic breakfast in the nearby café while having a debrief then it was time to head home.

Onwards and upwards…
