It was the last sunrise shoot of the year (2025) with a fast becoming tradition of Southwold as the destination.

We made our way to the classic viewpoint to the left of the pier and then all went our own way to capture our first images.

I decided to follow most of the herd by moving to the right hand side of the pier.

Once again, one of my first shots was the best image from the shoot.

Nikon Z9, 14-30mm@25mm, f/9, 1.6s, ISO 500

I had waited a while to get the next composition as fellow photographers were in the shot (bottom right) so I just enjoyed people watching, the grabbed a long exposure (180s).

Long exposure image

I then walked down onto the beach and away from the pier to shoot some wider vista-style shots, and capture the amazing sky.

16:9 composition

I turned sideways to get all of the pier in and a bit more swooshery, and I quite like the intersecting waves.

Love the shape of the waves

I walked back to the pier and to the other side for my final images of the morning.

Classic scene, but flawed

The image above is pleasant enough but a burnt out section just below and above the pier.

And that was a wrap.

I was quite looking forward to a breakfast bap in the putting green café opposite the pier, but despite Google claiming it would be open, it was most definitely closed.

We all ventured along the pier to a café where they had pastries and cakes but no bacon rolls. This was a deal breaker for most of us so we left.

Four of us met at Beccles Maccy D’s (classy!) for breakfast and a debrief.

It had been an enjoyable shoot.

Onwards and upwards…
