We decided to take a trip to Pakefield to get some sea air.

I had just acquired a new lens, the Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 ultra-wide angle prime which, although it has been purchased with the intention of Astro photography, can also be used for landscapes/seascapes.

All the images here are shot with this new lens.

We walked through the grounds of Pakefield church, and down to the beach where the yellow lupines were quite striking, and the subject of my first shots.

Yellow bush lupine

We wandered slowly across the dunes towards the boats and I grabbed more images of the flowers.

Common honeysuckle and lupines

I took a few shots in the area where the boats are fixed up.

Pakefield beach montage

There was one boat which was particularly pleasing as a capture:

I quite like this shot

We then moved closer to the waves and I had to try some handheld shots and adjust my settings and/or use a magnetic ND filter to get the sea water effects and textures I was after.

It’s alright! 16mm, f/8, 1/25sec, ISO 500

Another shot of this scene has been cropped to hone in on the detail of the receding water.

We then ambled back to the dunes for some shots of the flora and beach huts.

A nice collection of images of flora and beach huts

A closer shot bagged a good view.

Not bad at all…

Kathryn prompted me to take another shot here but looking back and with the S bend of the path in front of the beach huts.

The rays of the sun fortuitously captured

And that was a wrap.

We wandered up to Kensington gardens to check the bench in memory of Kathryn’s Dad, we wandered back through the streets back to our car, and happened to pass fabulous Pakefield Plaice chippy!

The lens had passed the test, matched the favourable reviews and I’m looking forward to giving it another run out.

Onwards and upwards…
