Five of us met at Happisburgh for sunrise.
We parked up and walked down the sandy slope to the beach and towards the Time and Tide bell. The slope is looking a bit mashed up and were we speculating how long this latest effort may last before the sea breaks it down.
The tide was high and the challenge for me was, once again, to try and get something different.
As is becoming quite common, my first shot is arguably my best of the morning.

I wanted to capture the ripples of the wave gently coming in and give the image a pastel look.
I’m really pleased with it, and think it has a lot to offer.
I stayed put and tried some different ideas such as capturing the diagonal of a wave.

Although I like the edge and shape of the wave, it doesn’t really work overall as a pleasing image.
I have taken another image where I wanted to capture the intensity of the waves hitting the bell.

I had spent a lot of time on this one spot so it was time to shift a little and try something else.
I was thinking to create a minimalist look, so moved back a little bit and more straight on to the bell.

I really like this shot. The minimalist vibe, the diagonal line, few details, and light subtle cloud detail and pastel tones.
I took a few more with long exposure times and like the one below.

Note that I’ve scaled up the size of the bell to be a little more prominent in the image, and the mono treatment is courtesy of Nik Silver Efex.
I tried a shot looking down the beach towards Cart Gap but it’s one never to see the light of day.

And that was a wrap!
A coffee and a debrief back at the car park and we were done.
No McShite for me – it was home for nap and homemade bacon sandwich.
Onwards and upwards…
