I was delighted to have been asked to write a biography as a new member of the Norwich & District Photographic Society (NDPS). I feature in issue 15/2021 dated 28th March 2021. Bio copied below..
“My first experience of taking a photo was as a teenager using my parents’ point and shoot camera on holiday. I remember taking a shot of a Scottish loch with clouds reflecting in the water. The camera used 110 film cartridges which wound on manually and were then sent to Truprint.
I purchased a shop brand 35mm DSLR in Dixons in the mid-90s but didn’t push myself to learn how to use it and sold it soon after. Fast forward to the five more recent years and my love of gadgets has seen me move from “all gear and no idea” to what I hope is “all the gear and some idea”!
I started with Canon crop DSLR then a brief dabble with Olympus before settling on Nikon full frame mirrorless. I’m settled with the kit now as I’ve realised it’s not about the kit. However, I do feel you need to like your kit as you should respect it and enjoy it, especially given the cost of it. I certainly can’t blame the kit for any output. For the last few years, I’ve been learning as much as I can from magazines, books, online videos, and workshops.
My main interest is landscapes and seascapes and editing using Lightroom. I’ve not been a member of a photography club before and only recently joined but I am enjoying it. Despite being more of a sunset person than a sunrise person, I hope to get out with the landscape group post Covid.”
