A Friday evening sunset shoot was on offer and several club members agreed to meet at Cart Gap on the North Norfolk coast.

The forecast looked good although there were signs of another plain sky but the forecast did suggest some clouds.

Sure enough, some clouds did arrive and meant that we avoided a completely plain and bland sky.

We parked up on the car park near the lifeboat station and wandered down to the beach and along to where the groynes were. This was actually Happisburgh now not Cart Gap.

I liked the look of the waves and there was quite a lot of foam on the beach too so it looked very promising.

I the grabbed the shot below for which I really like both the motion in the receding water plus the foam.

Foam, waves, slow motion shot – what’s not to like?

As usual, my favourite go to shutter speed of 1.6sec was chosen and I lowered my tripod down to get more drama in the foreground.

Plenty of awesome slow exposure shots were captured on this evening

A classic shot of the groynes had to be captured.

Different compositions to capture the groynes

I then decided to try some ICM shots and was very pleased with the image below.

ICM (Intentional Camera Movement)

This shot was captured by the camera being on a tripod, setting an 8 second timer then zooming my lens in the out during the exposure. This type of ICM is known as zoom burst.

I think for this subject, it works really well and could be an image I consider for a future POTY competition entry.

I took one more shot as the sun was falling to the horizon.

A final look and shot down the beach as the sunset was fading

We wrapped it up there and all said we had really enjoyed getting out and shooting at this location. It’s one of those places always worth a visit, and always with lots of different options for images on offer.

Onwards and upwards…
