Overstrand near Cromer was the choice for this weekend’s shoot, and it would be a low tide.

My last visit here was end of August last year on one of the last sunset shoots, and on an overcast evening – it was also high tide – see here.

Meet time was 05:45 so a rise and shine time would be 04:55.

The Shoot

We met in the car park and made our way down the slope to the beach.

We split and made our way to our chosen first photo spots.

I thought I may as well do the obvious shot first which is the first groyne that greets you at the bottom of the slope.

There was a really nice sky this morning which makes the scene.

24-120mm@34mm, f/11, 8sec, ISO 64

I walked to the right and went down the slope to the beach and there were some nice shapes in the sand.

Mono conversion

I moved around a little bit in this spot, and as the sunrise developed, it made for a stunning shot.

I liked the ripples in the sand and the reflections in the water pools

I thought I’d do a close up of the shapes on the beach – the following shot made me think of a pair of eyes.

Interesting, or not…

There was more…

The sand, as I saw it…, except for the conversion to mono

Drone shots

It was time to launch the drone, and gets some shots from above.

I got a decent shot of the groyne with the waves hitting the shore.

The shapes of the groyne from above

As I flew around, I quite liked the patterns in the sand, and I really need to put more effort into taking my time and finding patterns and interesting scenes, rather than hovering over groynes and waves!

Nice patterns

While the drone was hovering, a fellow photographer pointed out an interesting pattern on the beach, and suggested I fly to that location.

He helped me get my drone there, and suggested this pattern looks like an eye.

Elephant Eye

And here we are with another overhead groyne shot!

It’s alright

I think this next one is something different – I flew the drone to the end and past the end of the groyne, and turned around, and flew back towards the beach.

I like this view

There was one more capture from the drone before I landed it, and this was more sand patterns.

Nice pattern

With the drone packed away, it was time to grab a few more stills.

I could see most of my fellow photographers grabbing some swooshery shots, so decided to join them.

It’s alright!

I grabbed my usual genre of seascape with some textured waves.

Swoosh

My final shot was the incoming waves right up to my wellies.

Final shot

And that was a wrap.

We made our way back up the slope to the car park for coffee and debrief.

We all agreed Overstrand at low tide was bursting with photographic opportunities.

It was time to head home and consider a recuperative Power Nap.

Ronald robbed me on the way home by demanding my cash in return for a Double Bacon and Egg McMuffin meal.

All in all, a superb morning out.

Onwards and upwards…
