It’s a Friday night, and Crackerjack is no more…!

Only readers of a certain age would get that.

Anyhows, two of us were meeting for an evening shoot and we tipped up at the car park to find a cloudy and blustery scene.

There had been a spit or two of rain and I must admit, it ran through my mind to abandon and head home. But we agreed now that we were here, we need to give it a look.

Despite the summer month, and forecast, this evenings weather was a surprise.

We wandered down the slope and staircase and along the promenade to the pier.

We then made our way to the beach opposite the lifeboat café where, despite the tide being a little further in that we had expected, the beach was open and thing clifftop buildings were reflecting in the sand.

With an ND filter applied, I fired off some shots and tried to make the pool of water in the sand a point of foreground interest.

90 seconds exposure

I tried longer and longer exposures but then realised that the blustery wind in conjunction with my tripod resting on damp sand was causing blurry shots.

So, I shortened the exposures back to far shorter ones which was still sufficient to catch the movement in the clouds.

My favourite shot was the one below:

A more panoramic crop and only 20 seconds exposure

I stayed on or close to this spot for the evening and didn’t really see much else that inspired me.

We called a wrap and had a pleasant walk and chat heading back to our cars.

It had been worth fighting off the urge not to shoot and explore and go for it.

Onwards and upwards…
