Recently, we shot Walcott at low tide – see blog post here.
This week’s photo shoot location was a repeat visit to Walcott, but this time at high tide.
Meet time was 05:20 so a 04:36 alarm was set (ouch!).
The Shoot
We made our way to the promemade and the first and obvious spot was at a zigzag groyne.
This scene was calling out for a slow exposure – the shot below was shot with a 2.5 minute exposure.
I have another edit using a Snapseed vintage filter and converted to mono.
The sunrise was emerging super fast and with no particularly detailed clouds in the sky, I decided to zoom in on the groyne, but continue the slow exposure shots.
The sunlight was illuminating the groyne, and I quite like this shot below – unlike the previous shots, we have the horizon and sky.
It was time for a bit of swooshery so I grabbed the shot below but my usual target shot to get details and texture in the wave meant a much shorter exposure time of 1.3sec.
I moved a little back just short of where I had started to get that sunlight shining on the groyne but more vigorous swoosh.
There’s a similar shot below converted to mono.
No drone images / footage today 😢
I got the drone out but unfortunately the wind gusts were too strong so flying was not possible.
Last shots
I walked further along the promenade to shoot a different zigzag groyne and really like the now bright sunlight reflecting off the wood.
My final shot was of this groyne with my fisheye lens – nothing spectacular here, just interesting to see that arc of the horizon.
And that was a wrap.
We had a debrief back at the car where we were all pleased with the mornings shoot.
High tide at Walcott offers a lot of variety, and we could’ve spent longer here save for the fact that the morning sunlight was now harsh.
We supped our coffees, had a debrief, and made our way home.
I willingly parted with some cash to top up Ronald’s bank balance, and my belly.
Onwards and upwards…
