We chose Lowestoft for the latest sunrise shoot with a meet time of 06:45.

Parking near the promenade, it was a short walk to the beach and it soon became clear that we were unlikely to see any sunlight.

The forecast had suggested minimal low cloud but there was a lot more than the forecast had suggested, so the morning sunrise light never really came through. However, there was to be something different on offer…

Large pools of water were visible on the beach which meant fantastic reflections of the beach huts in the water. We quickly made our way to the first one and started grabbing shots.

First shot of the morning

It felt essential to get a full on straight capture to get all of the huts in one scene.

Straight on ultra-wide angle shot: 14-30mm@14mm, f/13, 4sec, ISO 64

Next up, a shot from the left…

To the left

A similar shot but further forward has captured a lot more reflections.

This shot has the reflections of both the hits and the buildings

Moving further up the beach, I grabbed a wide shot of the blue huts.

The blue huts

Moving further up the beach enabled me to grab a shot or three of the more arty beach huts.

The more ‘vintage’ huts

One of our group has a beach hut on the promenade and offered us a brew and some biscuits, which was most kind.

On the way there, I grabbed the shot below as my last shot.

The modern beach huts

I have written about these new modern beach huts in a previous blog post here.

A brew, some biscuits and a debrief at the beach hut capped off a really enjoyable morning.

As I left Lowestoft, I couldn’t help but wonder whether or not I had just snapped the reflections when I could’ve thought about composition more carefully.

One of our group had captured a few ICM shots but for once, this hadn’t even occurred to me.

Anyway, the usual breakfast treat from Ronald was acquired on the way home, and a Brucie bonus was that once I got home, I caught up on a couple of hours shuteye

Onwards and upwards…
